Waste and Recycling 2018 YEARLY HOURS

Effective January 4, 2018  the Milestone Landfill will be opened and supervised on the following days and times, but may be subject to future change with notification: 

Landfill will be closed June 2 due to rain!

(Weather permitting and excluding Statutory Holidays)

WEDNESDAYS: 9 AM to 12 PM

                                                                                 SATURDAYS: 8AM to 10AM

Residents and ratepayers of the Town of Milestone and RM 99 - no charge
Non Residents are subject to the following fees:
Half ton loads or equivalent - $20
Larger loads (subject to supervisor discretion - $100)

Grain Bags - FREE!  *GRAIN BAG RECYCLING NOTE: THEY MUST BE CLEANED AND ROLLED OR THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED OFF THE TRUCK. WE ONLY ACCEPT GRAIN BAGS WEDNESDAY MORNINGS! We are currently collecting bags.

The following garbage pick-up and disposal policy is in effect. Garbage pickup is on the street. (Weather Permitting). If the garbage is unable to be collected on its regular day because of weather or any other reason, the  Loraas crew will try to pick it up at the earliest possible date.

DOMESTIC HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE (FRIDAY PICK-UP) - Friday Mornings. It must be bagged and in the Loraas bin  and set out in the front on the Street for pickup by 7:00am. If it cannot fit in the bin it must wait till the next week. The cart must not be blocked and must be accessible to the truck. If there are cars parked on the street it must be out far enough for the truck to get at it.

COMPOST MATERIAL - CANCEL COLLECTION: EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY 

The TOWN OF MILESTONE hereby informs that we will be cancelling our compost material collection for the residents of Milestone. If you require, we will provide our 3 ton truck, upon request, for those residents requiring larger compost pickups. You can reserve the truck for the date you require and Public Works employees will deliver and pick up the loaded truck when you are done. 

 

 

LORAAS DISPOSAL -Blue Bin

You may have noticed that Loraas has changed to a blue bin. Loraas has changed its recycling to "Single Stream Recycling". That means No More Sorting.

Beverage Containers: Aluminum pop and beer cans

  • Plastic pop/water bottles
  • Milk jugs/cartons
  • Juice boxes and all Tetra-pak containers   
  • Wine, spirit, and beer bottles

Paper and Cardboard:  Flattened corrugated cardboard and paperboard (i.e. empty cereal boxes, empty detergent boxes, empty tissue boxes)

  • Newspapers, flyers, inserts, junk mail
  • Magazines, catalogues, paperback books, hardcover books with covers and spine removed
  • Telephone books
  • Letter quality paper
  • Brown paper bags, tissue roll cores, gift and packing paper, paper egg cartons
  • Envelopes with or without windows
  • Copier paper, computer printouts, NCR (no carbon required) paper
  • Shredded paper (place place in a clear plastic bag and tie shut

 

  • Sorry, we do not accept the following:
    • Waxed, plasticized or food contaminated paper, cardboard, cups or paper plates
    • Soiled tissues, napkins and paper towels
    • Confetti paper
    • Styrofoam or other foam packing materials
    • Household garbage, organics, hazardous or regulated waste
    • Items other than those listed in the “Paper” section

     

Household Plastic: All household plastics with any #1 – #7 symbol.  Container MUSThave a numbered symbol in order to be recycled. 

  • Some examples include: pop/water bottles, shampoo bottles, liquid detergent jugs, milk jugs, condiment bottles, yogurt and margarine containers, spray bottles, etc.
  • Plastic bags: grocery, retail, dry cleaning, bread bags, etc.  Please place all bags inside a single plastic bag and tie shut before putting it in your bin.

     Sorry, we do not accept the following:                           

    • Plastic toys 
    • Tupperware
    • Plastic pipe
    • Outdoor lawn furniture
    • Styrofoam
    • Hazardous waste containers (ie: motor oil containers)
    • Disposable diapers
    • Medical waste (ie: syringes, biohazardarous material)

Household Tin and Aluminum:

          - Aluminum cans, trays, pie plates, and foil

           -Household tin cans (food, beverage, soup, etc.)

 

 Sorry, we do not accept the following: 

  • Wire hangers, scrap metals, banding, propane and helium tanks, gas cans, auto parts, batteries, hazardous chemical containers

Household Glass:

         - Wine, spirit, and beer bottles

          - Food jars

 

 Sorry, we do not accept the following:

  • Pyrex or dishware glass, windows, mirrors, ceramics, porcelain

 

 When the recycling bin is full please notify the town office. Arrangements will be made to have the bin replaced. This is usually 1 or a 2-day turn around. Please flatten all cardboard as well as plastic milk jugs. (Do not place full boxes of flattened cardboard in the bins - place them in individually, this creates less bulk.) Additional cardboard recycling is also available behind the XTR. Please take the time to flatten plastic milk jugs. Loraas is no longer recycling glass. Glass may be disposed with your household garbage. Please do not place recyclable material beside the bin - BE PATIENT: WAIT UNTIL THE BIN IS REPLACED

Southeast Regional Library- Milestone Branch also has   Recycling of  inkjet cartridges, toner cartridges, cellphones, digital cameras, ipods and MP3 players, laptops & tablets. They have a drop off bin located at the Library. For more info Please Contact Shelly Sentes @ 306-436-2112.

Community Living Donation Bin

Community Living Donation BIn is here! Hoff Insurance and Teeger Plumbing and Heating have agreed to let the bin sit outside their place of business. If the bin is full DO NOT leave bags outside of bin. The bin will be emptied every 2 weeks. I will post the pick up schedule once I recieve it.

Pick up will every second Wednesday Starting December 20, 2017.
